Academics & Education

The IITS is hub for multi-disciplinary research and education, providing a stimulating environment for current and perspective students. We offer a wide variety of opportunities for academic excellence, networking, professional development and employment.

The IITS is the focal point for the acclaimed Masters of Tourism Administration program in the GW School of Business – the oldest program of its kind in the nation.

The program offers four concentrations:

The IITS also offers several shorter, professionally focused Certificate Programs:

Tourism & International Cooperation for Development

The IITS and the UNWTO jointly offer the Tourism and International Cooperation for Development course, which takes place at the George Washington University every year, bringing together industry professionals and students from all over the world. Participants explore a variety of crucial topics in the tourism development field, conceptualize their own tourism development project, and meet with leaders in the space.

Tourism Consulting Practicum

Each year, GW partners with select universities in a host country to build capacity at the local level, address real tourism development issues, and identify strategies, products and markets for developing destinations.

Our most recent practicums include:

GW is always looking for new partners to host the practicum and spread sustainable tourism development across the globe.

To inquire about hosting a consulting practicum in your destination or to get involved, contact Seleni Matus at selenim@gwu.edu.
