International Business Society

The GW International Business Club furthers the understanding of issues related to international business and promotes international career opportunities among members of the GWSB community. The organization is officially recognized by GW University and maintains close ties with the GW Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), the Department of International Business, and the Elliott School for International Affairs.

Relief Web is a global hub created by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and provides time-critical information on complex emergencies and natural disasters. The site also provides numerous “job hunting” resources for jobs in the International NGOs world.

Idealist.org

The website offers an abundance of resources for anyone who is interested in working in the nonprofit world on a variety of relevant social, economic, and political issues. The website features useful information for nonprofit managers, volunteers, job seekers, teachers, webmasters, consultants and vendors. Hundreds of job and volunteer opportunities are posted daily, relating to a wide variety of interest areas, including education, development issues, public affairs, communications, legal affairs, information technology, marketing, public relations, journalism, and others. Idealist.org also features information on nonprofit career fairs and graduate school career fairs.

Global Corps

The GlobalCorps website is the gateway to Personal Services Contract (PSC) positions with the U.S. Agency for International Development, Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA).

Chemonics

Chemonics is an organization that employs its services to over 90 countries worldwide. Most of its work is carried out under contract to USAID and other bilateral and multilateral aid donors. Chemonics offers management services, technical assistance, research, training and special expertise in communications, grant management, procurement, and performance monitoring. Chemonics’ website features job vacancies within the organization (both US- and overseas-based).

Foreign Policy Association

FPA is a non-profit organization founded in 1918 and a member of the World Affairs Council of America. It provides independent publications, programs, and forums to increase public awareness of matters relating to policy issues. The FPA website features multiple job opportunities, including internships, and volunteer positions spanning from research, to more hands-on jobs for example in the fields of humanitarian relief, developmental assistance, education, environmental issues, and health and youth.

InterAction

"InterAction is the largest alliance of U.S.-based international development and humanitarian nongovernmental organizations. With more than 160 members operating in every developing country, InterAction works to overcome poverty, exclusion and suffering by advancing social justice and basic dignity for all." InterAction offers several useful resources for people seeking paid or volunteer positions — in the US and abroad — with international relief and development agencies. Of particular interest are the following resources.

  • InterAction’s bi-weekly newsletter Monday Development which lists dozens of job opportunities at international organizations in each issue.
  • InterAction Member Profiles 2004-2005 is the bi-annual directory of the International humanitarian organizations that are members of InterAction. It gives detailed portrait of these US-based nonprofits working to ease human suffering and strengthen people’s ability to help.
  • Global Works highlights volunteer, internship, and fellowship opportunities in international development. Providing information on opportunities from nearly 100 member organizations working in 120 countries, including the U.S., this is the perfect guide for students, mid-career adventures, retired goodwill seekers and persons of any age wishing to donate their time and skills while creating effective change in a developing world.
