Our Mission
The Center for International Business Education and Research
at the George Washington University (GW-CIBER) serves as a vital
portal for businesses, policy makers, citizens, students and faculty
throughout the nation to increase their international skills and
awareness of the internationalization of our economy.
Through this portal, these stakeholders have
ready access to the distinctive international business resources
that GW, our partner organizations, and our D.C. location offer
in promoting the future economic welfare of the U.S.Through unique and integrated programming and
leverage of a broad range of distinct resources, the GW-CIBER provides
cost-effective, high-impact solutions to key issues critical to
the competitiveness of U.S. firms in the global marketplace.
About the GW-CIBER
Created under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988
and administered through the U.S. Department of Education to increase
and promote the nation's capacity for international understanding
and economic enterprise, CIBER grants are the most prestigious
Title VI awards for International Business in the United States.The
GW-CIBER’s activities include: interdisciplinary
programs that integrate business with languages and area studies;
programs available to members of business community; collaboration
with universities, institutions, agencies, businesses, and associations
to promote international expertise and awareness; research geared
towards international aspects of business; and research geared
to promote competitiveness of U.S. businesses.
GW-CIBER: Built Upon a Strong Foundation
Our projects and activities are supported by the following core
resources:
- A large and productive International Business
Department and international orientation of our business school
faculty in the disciplines;
- Recognized leadership in the essential components
of global competitiveness including corporate social responsibility;
- Nationally ranked sister schools in International
Affairs, Law and Public Policy/Public Administration;
- Strong university commitment, with participation
by faculty in all GW Schools and Colleges;
Diverse and distinctive collaborating partners
in the business and academic community;

leading private, public and nongovernmental sector organizations
and multilateral institutions deeply concerned with international
