Getting to The George Washington University

The George Washington University is located in Foggy Bottom, northwest Washington, DC. Please find below a detailed list of ways to reach the city and the campus.

Ground Transportation from Airports

There are three major airports in the Washington area: Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and BWI (Baltimore Washington International) Airport. Dulles Airport is the area's largest airport and has the most flights, especially for international travelers. National Airport is the closest to The George Washington University’s main campus. BWI Airport is the farthest from DC (it is close to Baltimore), but some airlines offer cheaper fares going there.

From Dulles Airport

1) SuperShuttle (http://www.supershuttle.com): SuperShuttle is a shared van-ride system. The fare is around $25 to The George Washington University’s main campus for the first passenger in your group and around $8 for each additional passenger (up to 5 passengers), excluding tip (check their web site for price updates). The ticket counter is located on the lower level (Ground Transportation/Shared Van Rides). No reservation is needed leaving from the airport. To take SuperShuttle back to the airport, you can use their online reservation system or call the phone number available on their web site to make a reservation.

2) Washington Flyer Taxi: This is the only authorized taxi company for Dulles Airport. It is approx. $50 one-way to downtown. Please follow the signs inside the airport.

3) MetroBus 5A is an express bus going from Dulles Airport to Rosslyn MetroRail Station and L'Enfant Plaza (downtown DC). The fare is $3. The bus leaves right outside the airport on the lower level (in Section E). To get to The George Washington University, get off the 5A at Rosslyn, from where you can take a cab or the metro to the Foggy Bottom metro station.

4) Washington Flyer Coach (+ MetroRail) : This coach service (http://www.washfly.com/) takes you to West Falls Church Metro Station (Orange Line). Regular fare is $9 ($16 round trip). Ticket for the Flyer Coach can be purchased at the ticket counter located inside the vestibule of Door 4 located on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level. You can board the bus at Dulles from the Main Terminal at Door 4 located on the Arrival Level. Once you arrive at West Falls Church Metro Station, take the Orange Line (direction: New Carrollton) to Foggy Bottom metro station, GW’s metro stop.

From National Airport

1) Taxis: There is a designated taxi line (i.e., queue) outside the airport. Please be advised that Washington, DC cabs operate on a zone system instead of meters. A ride for one passenger between National Airport and The George Washington University is about $12-$15.

2) MetroRail: MetroRail's Blue Line stops adjacent to Terminals B and C at National Airport. To get to The George Washington University, take the Blue Line to Foggy Bottom (direction: Largo Town Center).

3) SuperShuttle (http://www.supershuttle.com): SuperShuttle is a shared van-ride system. The fare is around $12 from National Airport to GW’s campus. No reservation is needed leaving from the airport. To take SuperShuttle back to the airport, you can use their online reservation system or call the phone number available on their web site to make a reservation.

From BWI (Baltimore-Washington International) Airport

1) SuperShuttle (http://www.supershuttle.com): SuperShuttle is a shared van-ride system. Their ticket counter is located between bag claims 6 and 7 at BWI Airport. The fare is around $30 from BWI to The George Washington University, excluding tip (check their web site for price updates). No reservation is needed leaving from the airport. To take SuperShuttle back to the airport, you can use their online reservation system or call the phone number available on their web site to make a reservation.

2) Train: Amtrak trains take you from BWI train station to Union Station in downtown DC. There are free shuttles running from the airport to the BWI train station. For Amtrak schedules and information call 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) or go to http://www.amtrak.com. The fare is $14 (check web site for price updates).

Also, the Maryland Transit Authority runs MARC trains from BWI train station to downtown DC destinations, including Union Station. Fares are around $6 (check http://www.mtamaryland.com for schedules and price updates).

From Union Station, take the Red Line to Metro Center (direction: Shady Grove). At Metro Center, change metro line, and take either the Orange line (direction: Vienna) or the Blue line (direction: Franconia-Springfield) and exit the metro at the Foggy Bottom metro station.

Getting to the GW School of Business
The entrance to the School of Business is located on 22nd street, between H and G Streets. Please use the entrance on 22nd street that is marked as “Duquès Hall.” The GW-CIBER is located on the 4th floor of the GW School of Business, Suite 450.

Metro Directions
Take either the Blue or Orange line to the Foggy Bottom-GWU metro stop. Exit the metro station onto 23rd Street, turn right and walk to the intersection of 23rd and H Streets. At the intersection, turn left and then make a right onto 22nd Street. The entrance to the School of Business is located on the right side of 22nd street, between H and G Streets. The entrance is marked as “Duquès Hall.”

Driving Directions to GW and our Parking Facilities
From North
Interstate 95 South to Interstate 495 (Capital Beltway) toward Silver Spring/Northern Virginia. Take exit 33, heading south on Connecticut Avenue for about 9 miles. Turn right onto Florida Avenue (just past the Washington Hilton) and turn left immediately after crossing Connecticut Avenue onto 21st Street, NW. Turn right onto H Street. Turn right onto 22nd Street and make immediate left turn into parking deck on the left.  GW School of Business is located a few doors down on 22nd Street.

From Northwest
Interstate 270 to Interstate 495 (Capital Beltway) toward Silver Spring. Take exit 33, heading south on Connecticut Avenue for about 9 miles. Follow directions as given in From North.

From West
Interstate 66 and Route 50 both connect with the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. Cross the bridge and exit left at E Street, then again at Virginia Avenue. Bear left, following signs for 23rd Street, NW. Turn right on 23rd Street and continue a few blocks to campus. Turn right on H Street. Turn left at 22nd and make immediate left turn into parking deck on the left.  GW School of Business is located a few doors down on 22nd Street.

From South
Interstate 95 to Interstate 395 Arlington Memorial Bridge exit. Cross the bridge and bear left at the Lincoln Memorial. Turn left onto 23rd Street, NW, and follow directions as given in From West.

Public Transportation around DC

MetroBus and MetroRail are the public bus and subway systems running through DC and the nearby areas of Virginia and Maryland. All the MetroBuses and MetroRail trains mentioned above are operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (http://www.wmata.com). The closest subway stops to the George Washington University is "Foggy Bottom/GWU" on the Orange and Blue Lines.
